Why I joined Casa-Net ?

Casa-Net (CAmeroonian Skills Abroad Network) is an organization created in 2007 by a Cameroonian student association in Switzerland with the objective to bring all the Skilled Cameroonians abroad together to make an impact on the development of Cameroon.

I joined the organization eight years ago and looking back at the past years i’m happy about the decision I made to join this team. I share with you in this post the main reasons why I decided to make this move and why I’m satisfied.

I believe in giving back what we received

My first participation to Davoc, the main event organized by Casa-Net was in 2009. As student in Information Technology in Eindhoven at the time, I decided to take part to the event as a passive participant just to get to know what the event was all about.

The first thing i noticed during my first 2 hours at the event was that there was too few people to handle too many tasks to make the event a success. I ended up assisting the guy that was responsible of creating a video report.

I believe in the fact that we are responsible of the future we create for future generations

I believe in the fact that no one can change your live better than yourself
This is true at the individual level but also at the country level, at least this is my point of view. I have always believed that you are the architect of you sadness or your happiness. In respect to this, I strongly support the idea that the change of Africa should be leaded by Africans. In fact, only the population of a country knows what is needed, and what is the priority.

I believe in the power of the group

From my experience, one of the biggest challenge faced by Africans and specifically Cameroonians is the ability to work together. In fact I we don’t give ourselves the time to improve our “working together”. For some reason we tend to be impatient and suspicious when it comes to collaborating.

I found a place where i could exercise my “working in group” while making a difference. In fact, CASA-NET offers the appropriate environment to contribute and learn from each other. The organisation relies on the Cameroon associations around the world and volunteers to turn the projects into reality.

After all these years, having been respectively, media team member,  head of Communication, head of Projects and now head of financial commission, I’m still very motivated to give more to people in Africa starting with Cameroon.

In case all this sounds interesting to you, don’t hesitate, drop me a message and it will be my pleasure to tell you how you could help making a better world.
